NSA 14U New Jersey State Champions
Congratulations to the Girls as they once again displayed their incredible teamwork, skill and never say die attitude that is becoming a signature of this early season. With determination and a little assault on their fan’s nerves the ladies proved to have almost every answer to their opponents in pool play on Saturday. The longest day in softball history was capped off in true exuberance as the team and fans got to celebrate a 2 run walk off homerun. That clutch blast catapulted the team to a 2-1 record and enabled them to sleep in a little on Sunday, giving them a 3 seed and a late start. Their gloves obviously took advantage of the extra rest, as did the pitching. The team played incredible defense all day, which is becoming a bit of a regular occurrence on Sundays. With clutch hitting that at times left the population of Rhode Island on base and rock solid glove work the girls posted victories of 2-0, 7-2 and a 3-0 shutout in the championship game against a stingy North Jersey Jaguar defense. It was one of the longest weekends for softball but one I am sure the girls will not soon forget. They can now add NSA New Jersey State Champions to their growing accomplishments, and I am sure this is just the tip of the iceberg for this exciting group of young ladies.
Congratulations to the of the Eye Of The Storm 2009 PONY Qualifier Champions! The girls compiled a 5-1 record over 2 days, only dropping a 5-4 decision in pool play to the Host Hamilton Hurricanes. Great pitching, solid defense and timely hitting up and down the lineup enabled the Lightning to win through on Championship Sunday. They defeated the Hurricanes White in the quarter finals which secured them the right to face their longtime rivals the Tsunami Blue in the semifinals. Backed by a dominant pitching performance the girls held on to win a 2-1 victory avenging a 2-1 loss to the Tsunami just 2 weeks ago. In the finals the Lightning held off several threats by the Host Hamilton Hurricanes, thanks to great pitching and a defensive clinic to take a hotly contested 2-1 decision.
Congratulations Ladies you earned it!
