16U Team

Welcome to the Central Jersey Lightning 18u News page. Our team was formed in August, 2006.  We are comprised twelve young ladies from the communities of East Brunswick, South River, Cranbury, Freehold, Robbinsville and West Windsor.

For the spring/summer of 2007 we participated in ten Pony, ISA, ASA and FAST tournaments in addition to the Delaware Rising Stars 16u Tournament. We concluded our spring/summer 2007 season at the FAST Nationals in Orlando, Fla., July 22-28.

Our 2008 winter workouts will be conducted at the All Sports Academy, Livingston Ave., No. Brunswick, NJ.

This past fall, a member of our pitching staff gained admittance into Thomas Besser's Elite Fast Pitch School's 60 m.p.h. Club for the class of 2009, refer to Internet link for further details.

We recently won the 2007 ISA 16u State Tournament Championship.

We placed second in the Ewing Edge Pony 16u National qualifying tournament.

We placed third in the Sparks Spring Pony 16u National qualifying tournament.

We reached the semi-finals in three other tournaments.

We participated in the FAST Nationals Tournament and accumulated an overall record of 5-4-1 against some extremely spirited competition.

Our current record for the spring/summer of 2007 is 29-17-1. Our combined record since our inception in the fall of 2006 (Wall Twp. H.S. Fast Pitch League/semi finals) is 42-23-2.

Our goals for 2008 will be to participate in several 16u/18u Pony, ISA, USSSA tournaments. We intend on competing in the Pony Nationals.

We believe in each other, hard work-both on the diamond and in the class room, having fun and humility. We never hesitate to congratulate an opponent for making a good play or getting a good hit against us.

We want you if...

you don't mind playing softball while freezing in March, living in Under Armour, after your mom found it buried in your closet, all day Saturday and hopefully all day Sunday. You consider a Wawa sub (purchased at 5am)to be a fine dining experience and you would rather sit under a tree in 90 degree heat, for two hours, with your teammates, than go to a fancy restaurant. You love to sleep in the back of your mom or dad's car and you know every nook and cranny because you have shove some type of garbage in there. You can live out of a 50 pound bat bag, which contains 5 half-filled Gatorade bottles, an infield dirt collection from all over the state, and some of your most prized possessions: the cleats your mom bought you on sale, with the worn out toe, the $239.00 bat your dad bought you, to make the ball go just a little farther, if you ever hit it, and your glove that just feels right and you don't care that people say it is too old or too big. That hair brush collection that your mom has been looking for the past two weeks. You can figure out how to break-down a Jugs pop-up screen faster than any two parents or coaches. You can treat a blister on your foot or sliding rash faster than any paramedic. Sometimes you simultaneously cry and laugh after a game. You can text with five friends simultaneously, during the long car rides or in between games. If you can do the above, your a SOFTBALL PLAYER and we want you!

Thank you for taking the time to read about us and we look forward to meeting you at the ball fields.
